Matthew Roach, an accomplished educator and coach at Peddie since 2009, will step into the role on July 1, succeeding the retiring Catherine Rodrigue.After a nationwide search, Matthew Roach has been named Peddie’s next Associate Head of School, Head of School Jim Hamilton announced.Roach, who is currently the Director of Teaching and Learning at Peddie, has taught English, coached the varsity girls soccer team, and served as a student advisor and dorm faculty member since 2009. Prior to his position as Director of Teaching and Learning, he was the English department chair.“Matt brings deep experience and commitment to Peddie, and his classroom instruction and academic leadership is superb,” Hamilton said. “Students and alumni who have been taught by him consistently include his classes as a highlight of their Peddie education.”As the associate head of school, Roach will lead the academic program at Peddie, including the faculty hiring, onboarding and professional growth. As a member of the school’s senior leadership team, he will work closely with the community to execute both immediate and long-term strategic projects and priorities; be a champion of inclusive and reflective practices that enhance belonging; and promote the ongoing evaluation and improvement of teaching and learning across the faculty.Roach, a graduate of St. Andrew’s School, holds a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and History from Williams College and received master’s degrees from both Middlebury University’s Bread Loaf School of English (English Literature) and the Teachers College of Columbia University (Educational Leadership).Prior to joining Peddie, Roach was a teaching intern at The Hotchkiss School.Beginning his new role on July 1, he will succeed Catherine Rodrigue, who is retiring after 25 years in the position.
